I was just nosing around the Internet when I ran into an intresting press release. Apparently Google and NASA have a meeting on December 18, about some sort of agreement.
MOFFETT FIELD, Calif,. - NASA Ames Research Center hosts a media briefing Monday to discuss a major announcement involving Google, Inc.
WHAT: Media briefing announcing details of Space Act Agreement with Google, Inc.
I found the “Space Act Agreement” intresting so I dug around to find what it means. And the pact reads some boring stuff that really has nothing to do with Google that is until section 401.
Sec. 401. (a) The purpose of this title is to authorize and direct the Administration to develop and carry out a comprehensive program of research, technology, and monitoring of the phenomena of the upper atmosphere so as to provide for an understanding of and to maintain the chemical and physical integrity of the Earth’s upper atmosphere.
(b) The Congress declares that is the policy of the United States to undertake an immediate and appropriate research, technology, and monitoring program that will provide for understanding the physics and chemistry of the Earth’s upper atmosphere.
So this seemed to be leading to Google Earth. I searched in NASA and found that they have a similar service that is due to come around April next year called “iEarth”. According to newscientist it allows you to choose a spot on the Earth to get some measurements about it as well as data on the atmosphere and the space above it.
What I am thinking is that the “iEarth” is going to be combined with Google Earth, giving Google unlimited new information as well as a head up above MSN and Yahoo in maping technology.
Stay tuned as I am still searching around maybe some more intresting information will pop up.
Thank you
