Google has been granted two new patents one for ‘methods and apparatus of estimating similarity’ and one for a ‘digital mapping system’. But the “Similarity Engine” had been filed in 2001 but now just got accepted.
This may raise new fears of the duplicate content penalty. After Google announced how it worked and other details it seemed to quell down the concerns of the many webmasters out there. But with new patent it would allow Google to gather “sketches” of content and depict between them which weights more therefore gets listed.
This is nothing new however as searching Google’s patent search engine shows up with hundreds of results. Some even from companies like IBM and Hitachi.
The details are still sketchy at best but I will keep you guys updated on any new developments.
Thank You
