After a couple of moths of testing, Google Groups is finally dropping the beta and officially launching the new Google Groups. With new features ranging from the ability to add graphics to your groups page to the new ability to share files and such.
So just exactly what are those new features?
- Pages. Create and contribute to shared web pages with simple drag, drops, cuts, pastes, and clicks (i.e., no coding).
- Customized look and feel. Select pictures, colors, and styles to express your group’s style.
- Member profiles. See who else is in the group and read their profiles. Personalize your own profile with a photo and other details.
- File sharing. Post documents that anyone in the group can access.
- Easy reading of group discussions. Read easily in a Gmail-style interface.
All these features are fine and dandy but one caught my eye. The ability to share your files with your groups. Can anyone spell warez ? Documents and certain file types are restricted but I was able to upload a zip file or rar file. Which everyone know is the main sharing file type. With 100mbs allowed per group it’s enough for those warez sharers that typically divide large files into smaller ones for easier sharing.
This may lead into the spamming of Google Groups when a user creates hundreds of groups for his file sharing needs.
Thank You
