Digg Unbans SEO News Blog!

I survive from a vicious caugh to awaken to some good news. It seems Digg has decided to unban many domains that were unjoustly banned which includes SEO news blog. SEO news blog was banned on December 14th 2006 now two months and some later I am unbanned.

Pronet to my best knowledge was first to discover that we were unbanned and published a list of the unbanned domains so far. Also I’d like to thank Skitzzo from seorefugee and Muhammad Saleem from pronet for e-mailing me and letting me know.

Now the reason for these unbannings stems from digg updating it’s algorithm and has taken control of what they call “grouping” behavior or where groups of Digg accounts are controlled or effectively controlled by a person or group and can push stories to the home page or get them buried. This was what happened to anything remotely close to having to do with SEO on Digg.

I’d like to thank the guys at digg for taking care of this and also the SEO community for banding together and not staying quiet while this was going on.

Thank You

Netscape Bringing Top Digg Users Page Back

seo nes blog: diggDigg announced yesterday that it would remove it’s Top Diggers Page. Now it has been fully removed. But Netscape the Digg copy decided to try to keep Digg down by making their own Digg Top Users page.

Christopher Finke who works for Netscape decided to pull data from Digg’s user page that still shows the user’s popularity stories ratio. Even though he claims he is doing this by himself on he has to question if he has ulterior motives in doing this.

Digg: No More Top Diggers List

Digg just announced via their blog that the top diggers list will be removed. According to them people have been misusing their list to claim that those top diggers have been getting paid to digg stories.

The latest scandal came from a website called Payola asking top digg users to digg their stories for $500. This is what led Kevin Rose to remove the list according to him:

So what does this all mean? After considerable internal debate and discussion with many of those who make up the Top Digger list, we’ve decided to remove the list beginning tomorrow.

This new development is aimed at stopping people from trying to influence diggs from top diggers.

Blogg-Buzz The Digg Killer?

There has been a lot of digg copiers out there but none has been especially made for blog posts. From Netscape to Pligg CMS to Go2Web2 , digg copiers are everywhere these days. But a new player is appearing called Blogg-Buzz which will focus entirely on blog posts.

Launched by Shivaranjan  and JohnTP himself the website is still in the alpha stage. With new increasing criticism of digg by users new and better user powered news systems are needed. Even as I watched my very own seo news blog get banned for apparently having seo in the url, I still didn’t criticize digg. After all I didn’t have any other choice to a source to get the news users care about from. But with blogg-buzz I believe I have discovered the Digg killer.

The reason why I think this new Digg copy will work is the fact that it is focusing on a rising and already on top trend of blogs. Not to mention a high percent of stories on Digg are blog posts.  That’s the way to truly destroy a main competitor by focusing on one little special feature and building up as you become the authority on that feature. Those Google copyiers can learn a lesson from this.

Digg and SEO Rising Bad Blood

Awhile ago I thought I got banned from digg because of something I did. Turns out everyone in the SEO community is feeling the “SEO Digg” effect. Which simply means digg will ban if you have anything to do with SEO. With me it took less than a week after I started this blog to get banned by digg, my only crime? Having seo in my url. Though digg won’t directly admit to this more and more information is coming out and there appears to be some kind of hate circle among digg’s moderators to bury anything SEO related.

Sure they could pick on small timers like me but they went too far when they banned toprank for what appears to be no reason at all. That’s when this story picked up momentum with other SEO websites admitting they were banned by digg too. Lee Odden, the owner of toprank, contacted the Digg executives about it and so far with no answer. In an email to David Utter by Lee explained who or how they were doing this:

Because someone or several people noticed several stories that concern SEO being submitted from our blog (not by me or my employees though) and certain influential Digg users that hate anything to do with SEO emailed spam complaints, dugg down a few recent stories and that was it.

The problem appears to be the way some SEO webmasters try to play digg to increase their websites’ awareness. But this shouldn’t lead to a whole subject turning into a taboo just because some people didn’t play by the rules. If this truly is a serious problem maybe implementing better security measures would be a better option, but no matter what having your SEO article reach the digg homepage only to be removed quickly by some digg moderators while some other digg that talks about tipping cows enjoys it’s stay, is just wrong.

This all comes down to what level of professionalism digg is willing to play at. It’s no secret that anything anti-digg will never even get two diggs and if does will see the website and user probably banned. Which leads to the question at whether digg is a free community controlled news network or just another carefully controlled media outlet.

Thank You

Whoo! Finally Digg gets a makeover it’s seems like years since it’s changed. The new digg page has a top ten list on the right. Ans all the navigation is small and crushed on the top. And news, videos and podcasts have their own new sections on top.

Even though the podcasts are in beta it seems to be going just fine. And has subsections of just about every category you can think of. Still sad that seo news got banned but hey I am happy for Digg!
So how’s do YOU like the new digg homepage? Drop me a comment.

Banned From Digg

You guys may remember my first post about being banned from digg, well this time it actually happened, I guess they were just getting ready to ban seo news blog. Try to submit any of my new post sand bam you’ll be hit with “that url is banned from digg”. I waited and actually wrote dig demanding an explanation and they just did. Here’s a copy of the email I just got:

Your site was reported as spam numerous times and subsequently banned from submission at digg. Please review our FAQ (digg.com/faq) for more information regarding banned URLs.

I am the owner of SEO News Blog http://www.seonewsblog.com/ and I want to know why my site was banned. I can’t submit any new stories and I don’t understand why it would get banned since I just started the site and I personally watched all diggs. I am a longtime user of digg and I really want to use my website to bring digg users new and relevant news stories. If it’s anything I did I wasn’t aware of, I apologize but I have read the faqs and I don’t think I’ve broken any rules.

Thank You

Now let me point out the fact I’ve personally submitted all 34 posts I’ve posted on here. And all of them, you can through them if you want, had nothing to do with spam. Is it maybe because I submitted them so fast since I’ve been trying to get some established user base as this website is new? I don’t know all the email says is users “numerously reported” my diggs as spam .Even though the ones I submitted all have 2 or more diggs.

This leads me to ask myself why I was banned, do I already have an enemy in my week of running this blog? Is there some kind of closed circle of blogs about SEO that no one else is included in? (aka. matt, seomoz, seoroundtable,…) Either way this just makes me mad and even more determined to have my website make it out there in the SEO world.

I’ll try emailing them one more time asking them to please review my submissions and they’ll see for themselves that it’s not spam. I’ll keep posting with updates.
Thank You

Happy 2nd Birthday Digg!

I’d like to take a moment to wish a happy birthday to one of my favorite sites out there: digg.com. It’s the second year around and digg’s had a good run. Starting from only one digg to over a million today. One of digg’s original programmers has released an official post congratulating digg on it’s accomplishment. The very first digg of course about google, the google cheat sheet, to the million it has now in only two years. Users are over 700,000 and counting. So Happy Birthday Digg! And good luck we’ll keep following closely in your dust.

Thank You
