Everywhere I go I keep running into these 125×125 ads. On some of my favorite blogs to visit search engine journal, search engine land, techcrunch, and a couple more other blogs too. So what’s so magic about these 125 by 125 ads, the first thing that popped in my mind is there CTR. What kind of CTR do these ads produce? Well I don’t why as of yet but I will found out.
I myself use that format on my posts every once in a while since my ads are run by a random script. But they do have a certain feel to them. The CTR however seems to be the same so I am thinking of combing them together like the other blogs are doing:
They arrange them three by three, a common know thing in the advertising world is that if you overload the user with a lot of colors they tend to shy away from ads. But I am guessing keeping them to the small but square size of 125 by 125 counters that effect. So tell what you think is it better or is it just another blogging fad?

News about Google gets around quick like wild fire. Especially when it’s some kind of error last week it was Google’s new paypal competitor Google checkout now it’s Gmail. With google checkout though it was just a glitch in the system that counted affiliates’ earnings.
With gmail however it was the loss of about 60 accounts, they just disappeared out of nowhere. Rumors had started that the new version of Firefox caused those accounts to get deleted but remain unproven as of now. The problem truly is the fact that millions if not more people now use Gmail since it started back in 2004. Some of these people depend on the emails they get daily and all trusted Google’s spotless record, until now.
People depend on Google’s reliability, that’s one of the biggest factors in why Google is always successful in it’s ventures. With this break with Gmail however this may be changing very fast. With the closure of Google’s answer service all this is amounting pressure on Google to deliver. It was only a matter of time before this happened as no one is perfect.
This leads a lot of people to question whether Google is truly living up to the expectations of those multitudes that rely on it. Me personally I’ll stick by my old friend. I’ve been using google services ever since I could remember and can’t imagine using anything else.

In a stunning, but expected move, google blog search has surpassed technorati in traffic according to the new hitwise data. With technorati getting slow and with almost no new developments, the much more agile and supported by google, the google search for blogs has moved ahead of technorati for the week of 12/23/06. How did this happen? Easy with Google behind the scenes developing it’s blog search continually improving it and not to mention funneling traffic from other areas to the google blog search.

This whole overtaking started when google placed a link to the blog search from google news causing it to increase in traffic by 168%! Google news continues to bring this steady amount of traffic to google blog search with 60% of traffic to google blog search from google news. But that’s not all adding blog search to the menu in the search box of the actual google homepage also helped.
Technorati should focus less on the background and start releasing more features if it hopes to regain it’s position. For what seems like forever now the same search engine has been powering technorati with all the same gadgets never updating. If google blog search continues to grow I might have to switch my technorati tags to google blog search tags. I am already getting more traffic from google blog search than technorati.

Awhile ago I thought I got banned from digg because of something I did. Turns out everyone in the SEO community is feeling the “SEO Digg” effect. Which simply means digg will ban if you have anything to do with SEO. With me it took less than a week after I started this blog to get banned by digg, my only crime? Having seo in my url. Though digg won’t directly admit to this more and more information is coming out and there appears to be some kind of hate circle among digg’s moderators to bury anything SEO related.
Sure they could pick on small timers like me but they went too far when they banned toprank for what appears to be no reason at all. That’s when this story picked up momentum with other SEO websites admitting they were banned by digg too. Lee Odden, the owner of toprank, contacted the Digg executives about it and so far with no answer. In an email to David Utter by Lee explained who or how they were doing this:
Because someone or several people noticed several stories that concern SEO being submitted from our blog (not by me or my employees though) and certain influential Digg users that hate anything to do with SEO emailed spam complaints, dugg down a few recent stories and that was it.
The problem appears to be the way some SEO webmasters try to play digg to increase their websites’ awareness. But this shouldn’t lead to a whole subject turning into a taboo just because some people didn’t play by the rules. If this truly is a serious problem maybe implementing better security measures would be a better option, but no matter what having your SEO article reach the digg homepage only to be removed quickly by some digg moderators while some other digg that talks about tipping cows enjoys it’s stay, is just wrong.
This all comes down to what level of professionalism digg is willing to play at. It’s no secret that anything anti-digg will never even get two diggs and if does will see the website and user probably banned. Which leads to the question at whether digg is a free community controlled news network or just another carefully controlled media outlet.

Now everyone heard of Microsoft giving out very nice Laptops called “Ferrari” to specific bloggers who blogged about Windows Vista. But as it turns out Microsoft just changed it’s minds and wants the Laptops back.
Ironic how this whole thing just happened in two days just like that Microsoft decides to take it’s Laptops back. It’s like Bill Gates coming back down the chimney and demanding to get his gifts back, after all Christmas is over. lol. Lesson Learned.

Google stocks were a hot thing for the 2006 year but what about 2007? It appears history shows us that Google’s money ride is about to crash and blow up on it’s many hopeful investors. Why? Two simple reasons why next year, 2007, Google stocks will be a thing of the past: One is the history of stocks another is the competition.
History of high performing stocks has taught us that for stocks to maintain a high they have to continually increase. With Google’$9.3 billion in trailing revenues means every percent increase would require more than $93 million in incremental revenue. That with the added factor factor that this gain must be accompanied by a constant dominance of in all other operations. With many of revenues due to the ever changing field of advertising it looks even more grim for good ol papa Google to deliver. Like the giants in TV advertising like CBS, ABC, and Fox ad sales seem to decline after hitting a high. With Google reaching now into TV advertising itself it appears to want to branch out and maintain it’s leading position.
The second reason would be of course the competition of the likes of those such as Microsoft or Yahoo. This triangle of competition has been going on for quite some time now and it’s a matter of time before Microsoft finds a trump card and surpasses Google, as well know Microsoft for playing the “underdog” and suddenly rise to take over. Not to mention the fact that Microsoft has far more resources than Google.
This all culminates to come to one point and one strong point the word GOOG will mean less and less in the coming year’s quarters. Maybe it’ll mean the end of the giant g itself. One thing I learned from my history teacher, except the fact that if you are bald you should just accept it instead of combing over hair from well let’s keep to the subject, is the fact that history repeats itself. And a factor such as competition no matter how small may turn out to be the biggest achilles’ heel you’ve overlooked.

Not to long ago Microsoft decided to change their MSN search to a new name in order to compete with Google’s new services that went beyond a normal search engine. They decided to name this new search engine as well as other things “Windows Live Search“. Now MSN had some trouble as a search engine but it was doing pretty well for itself. But now the November ratings from Nielsen//NetRatings shows that it’s down to just 12% of US search traffic.
This compared to Google’s strong 50%, with AOL powered by Google with 6.2%, shows Live’s inability to keep up with the search engine giants. As Yahoo is keeping it’s second spot with 24%.
Why is it that Live is facing problems? Part of the issue is the fact that users don’t think an operating system has anything to do with an online search engine. Preferring instead to go to names they already recognize like Google or Yahoo. MSN was seen as a good online search engine because of the brand being Internet Explorer home page. But with this new change that doesn’t even offer anything new users are starting to switch over.
Now the next contender to Live is Ask.com, with 2.6% traffic in the US and over 30% worldwide, has also recently changed it’s brand from Ask Jeeves to just Ask with no problems. Notice however how they stayed close to the original name in order not to confuse their user base. Also Ask keeps coming out with better ways to search with it’s new beta ask-x due to come out soon.
All this accumulates to point out Live’s new problems both internally and externally. With it’s rigid search engine never doing much of anything to change to accommodate new users and outside competition being so strong the future may look anything but bleak for Microsoft’s new search engine.

Even though I am still busy with a lot of things, especially cleaning up, I thought I’d drop in to see what’s happening at SEO News Blog. First let me be the first to invite you to join the seo news blog’s bloglog community and astrojith lays the first claim at being member number one!
But oh yes it’s after Christmas day and as we all know the hangovers are everywhere not to mention New Year’s coming so yes you guys are going to need this ” How to cure a hangover” post. The drymouth, irritation, and the depression of a hangover are simply terrible! Even though I an avid believer in drinking in moderation here’s a nice guide on how to get rid of it:
Step 1:
You need is a banana, some clean drinking water, fruit juice, an icepack, and some fresh air.
Step2:
- Drink water
- Dehydration is one of the main symptoms of a hangover, so replenishing the body’s water supply is a good idea. Try adding 1 teaspoon of salt per liter and 4-5 teaspoons of sugar per liter. Sip this slowly
Alternatively, use non-caffeinated or non-carbonated sports drinks.
- Step 3
- Eat a banana
- Eating generally is a good idea in order to replace lost electrolytes, but bananas also replenish the potassium lost on all those trips to the toilet during a heavy night’s drinking.
- Step 4
- Get some air
- Try speeding up that metabolic rate with a bit of exercise. It’ll increase the speed with which your body breaks down the alcohol.
- Step 5
- Try a Cold Compress
- There are two ways of making a cold compress; one using a pad, the other an ice pack.
To make a cold pad use a towel or cloth that has been dipped in very cold water, wrung out and folded into a pad.
To keep the compress cool dip it in the water every few minutes and repeat the same process. This should be done for at least 10 minutes.
Alternatively you can use an ice pack or a sealed packed of frozen peas.
Don’t use the ice pack for more than 10 minutes.
- Step 6
- Drink fruit juice
- Fruit juice is also a good idea because it is high in vitamins and nutrients that were depleted by the diuretic effect of the alcohol.
Remember, there’s no silver bullet for a hangover but drinking less in the first place definitely helps!
Well hope it helps out some of you guys out there having some of these problems. I can’t really post anything else until I get back home as my laptop is acting like a rock and I don’t have my sources, but I’ll try.
Than kyou
